It's hardly what I'd be doing if you gave me a choice
For me, this song encompasses most of the Buffy/Angel relationship, starting with episode seven, season one, "Angel", when Buffy first learns Angel is a vampire. The song also reminds me strongly of early season two and three, when the two are struggling with their feelings and their positions, and deciding whether or not its worth the risk of getting involved. It also reminds me of "I Will Remember You" and "Sanctuary" from Angel season one. I see it as both perspectives and can be perceived as either for different verses.

God bless the daylight, the sugary smell of springtime
Remembering when you were mine
In a still suburban town
A song for "Innocence" and "Surprise", the short bliss they enjoyed before "Surprise", the one night they had together, and the return of Angelus accompanied by his campaign to destroy Buffy.

03 C.S. Lewis Song - Brooke Fraser

This song reminds me of "Surprise" and "Innocence" as well. It also reminds me of Buffy's struggles with returning to life in season six.

This song is for the struggle between Buffy and Angelus. He's lost his soul but that doesn't mean Buffy has stopped loving him. She blames herself and she can't bring herself to kill him but she'll have to do it eventually. It can also be seen as Angel's decision to leave in season three.

05 I Don't Know If I'll Be Back This Time - Sea Wolf
Will this key work anymore?
Does someone else now live inside?
I think the former tenant died

I don't know if I'll be back this time
I might just stay here with you
Again I am reminded of Surprise and Innocence but also of the return of Angel's soul in Becoming Part Two and his return from hell in season three. The confusion and guilt he felt over what he'd done, all the while still struggling to suppress the feelings he had for Buffy.

06 Everything Changes - Staind

Would it matter anyway?
Would it change how you feel?

I am the mess you chose
The closet you cannot close
This song reminds me of Buffy asking for time at the end of "Lover's Walk" in season three, Angel's departure after Graduation Day Part Two, and Buffy leaving at the end of "I Will Remember You" and at the end of "Sanctuary".

The same as I love you, you'll always love me too
This love isn't good unless it's me and you

Last night I was writing about you
I know my screaming and shouting won't keep you
I know I know I know, you're still my love
Angel's leaving at the end of Season three. Even though they're both in love with each other and neither wants it to end, he knows he has to let her go, at least for now.

In the heat of Los Angeles

It's a heartless beating
I heard this song about two years ago and it immediately reminded me of Angel, the entire song just screamed Angel. It reminds me strongly of Angel's arrival in L.A. and the mission he choses to take on, trying to forget about Sunnydale and the mistakes he's made.

Face against the ground

Fears you can’t deny
It’s burned a hole, right through your soul
But I know you can save us
This is just a hero song for Buffy and Angel, both of them suffering endlessly through trial after trial trying to fight the good fight. They keep getting knocked down but they always get up again.

10 I'm Dying - VAST

For the cold love of the world
It's killing me through
My own evil pride
Angel's P.O.V., in all his angst, especially in season two with all he goes through for and with Darla. And also for Buffy, in season six, as she struggles with trying to readjust to the world after experiencing heaven.

The ones I made friends with
The comfort of fireflies
Long gone before daylight

And if I had one wish fulfilled tonight
I'd ask for the sun to never rise
This is set during Season five of Buffy, when Angel comes to comfort her after the her mother's funeral. Neither wants him to leave but the morning is coming.

12 Please Please Please - Shout Out Louds
Long time ago

It was the worst date of your life

But yesterday when i saw your eyes in a black haze
You didnt even know my name
So i walked on pretending that you still belong
but it will never be the same no more
Again for Buffy's angst in season six and Angel's longing. Their off-screen meeting when she returns.

If i can keep myself awake
Another reminder of IWRY as well, this song also reminds me of Angel Season five and Buffy Season seven. Sort of what I can imagine them feeling as they near their respective "end-of-the-world"s.
